This is a symmetric single-cavity line filter (VCSEL cavity) with 21 layers in the front and 21 layers in the back. A quarter wave thick layer of index 1.84 is added to the substrate as an AR coating. Notice that we have used fictitious materials n3.4 and .2.9 instead of GaAs and AlAs. This is because even the small amount of absorption present in GaAs/AlAs makes a significant difference in this highly resonant structure.
